NJPRO receives a grant from State Farm for the curriculum projectTeaching Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs Today, NJPRO’s Small Business Curriculum, is designed to promote business and entrepreneurial literacy among middle school students by providing them with real-world examples from the workplace and our free-market system. Topics include business planning, finance, marketing, technology, innovation, the hiring process, and communication.

The curriculum consists of eight thematic lesson modules that reflect the State’s Core Curriculum Content Standards. Each module contains:

  • step-by-step instruction for teachers’ use
  • the Core Curriculum Content Standards addressed by the lesson
  • hands-on student activities
  • new vocabulary words
  • resources and materials needed for the lesson
  • potential extensions of the lesson
  • vignettes from business leaders
  • helpful Web sites related to the lesson
  • tools for evaluation of the lesson

The eight modules are flexible enough to fit into most classroom schedules and are designed to fill approximately five 45-minute time periods.

The curriculum was designed by a group of teachers under the guidance of an advisory board of business and education experts. It has been endorsed by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), the New Jersey Department of Education, the Technology Educators Association of NJ, PSE&G, AT&T and the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA).
